The history of The Croteau Agency, Inc. begins with the founders of the agency, Oneil and Eloise Croteau. After World War II ended, Oneil returned from the Merchant Marines to the family dairy farm in northern NH and married his high school sweetheart. Together, they took over the management and operations of the farm and began their family.

| In the 1970’s times became difficult for farmers in the USA. At that time, Oneil and Eloise were visited by a Farm Family Insurance Agent and discovered that Farm Family was looking for an agent in Coos County. Although this was a new venture, Oneil was a tremendous success and received the Farm Family Agent of the Year Award in 1972.
| Eloise joined Oneil in 1972 as a Licensed Property and Casualty Agent and The Croteau Agency was born. The first office was at the farm house in northern NH and the agency grew steadily. For several years, the office was located on Exchange St. in Gorham, NH and in 1985, The Croteau Agency, Inc. made its grand opening in Berlin, NH.
| After two years as a John Hancock Financial Services agent, Lorraine Croteau, Oneil and Eloise’s daughter, joined The Croteau Agency, Inc. team in 1985. Ten years later, at the age of 68, Oneil and Eloise retired and sold the agency to Lorraine. In 1996, Lorraine acquired The Demers Agency and she has continued the philosophy that serving clients and employees with honesty, integrity and competence is a privilege.
